Research

The fact that there are 30,000 genes each able to be faulty by at least 100 ways, to cause inherited disease and cancer, underlines the purpose of the Centre. This is reinforced by frequent requests from around the world for help in Mutation Detection. This interest and importance, which is bound to increase, led Professor Cotton to start in 1996 the first centre in the world to focus on mutation, its cause, effect, measurement, detection and prevention. There are many areas where the Centre's staff have achieved international recognition and or have an international presence.
